Mom would have been 70 on Saturday. Her birthday would sometimes fall on Thanksgiving, which always made the holiday feel extra special. I loved how much she adored Christmas and Halloween, but Thanksgiving held a special place in her heart too. Her table was always set so beautifully, often in red and white, with place cards featuring her amazing handwriting.
On Thanksgiving mornings, she’d wake up early to prep the turkey. I’ll never forget how she’d pick it up by its wings and make it dance in the sink, calling it the Turkey Dance! She always tried to teach me how to prep the turkey, but when she made it dance, it was so disturbing! 😂
One year, she woke me up early, wandering around my bedroom. When I asked her what she was looking for, she replied, "The turkey! He escaped!"
Gretchen and I often talk about how life gets so busy, and we sometimes consider skipping a place we used to go with the kids or not doing something we’ve done once or twice. Then, out of nowhere, our kids will ask about it—it’s become a tradition without us even realizing it. Those moments turn into what the kids call “core memories.”
We hope you have a joyful and grateful Thanksgiving, filled with love, laughter, and maybe even a turkey dance of your own! 🦃❤️
We hope you have a grateful Thanksgiving, and may your turkey dance the morning away!
With gratitude,
Kim
I will always remember mom doing the "Turkey Dance" and all that she did to make Thanksgiving and all of our holidays special. Down to making up Valentines poems, green milk for St. Patrick's Day and her Christmas family update letters each year. Happy 70th mom!
