The Magic Was in the Little Things

My Mom always made an amazing St. Patrick’s Day dinner. She would dye the milk green and made grasshoppers (when we were older!). She made open-faced Reubens, and somehow every little detail made the day feel special.

For any holiday, she’d cut our sandwiches into shapes and write poetry on our lunch bags. She was basically the original Pinterest mom before Pinterest was even a thing.

Maybe it’s strange to be thinking about St. Patrick’s Day in June, but memories have a funny way of showing up when you least expect them.

Looking back, it wasn’t about elaborate decorations or expensive traditions. It was the little touches that made holidays feel magical — green drinks at dinner, themed desserts, funny decorations, and meals we looked forward to every year.

That’s probably where my love for celebrations really began.

As a kid, you don’t realize those tiny moments become core memories. You just know your mom made ordinary days feel exciting.

Now, when I plan parties, workshops, and celebrations, I think about that often. People may not remember every decoration or perfectly styled detail, but they remember how something felt.

They remember the traditions.

They remember the effort.

They remember being celebrated.

It may be June, but good traditions (and good recipes) are worth saving. I’m sharing their recipes below to download and tuck away for next St. Patrick’s Day.
